Do I need to buy a snowboard?

Looks like I'll be moving to Denver to go to college. Obviously winter sports are the business out there. I've been snowboarding and I love it and will do as much as I can next year. But is it a good idea to go spend 400-500 bucks on a board, boots, and bindings if I plan to snowboard a lot?
